Australian Internet Filtering Debate at Kickstart 2009

On last night’s show I mentioned the heated debate on the Australian mandatory filtering plans. Here we have the video of the debate, featuring Bernadette McMenamin from Child Wise, Anthony Pillion from Webshield, Geordie Guy from EFA, and Mark Newton. Well presented video from KickStart. You should get Phil to push this out to as many of his contacts as he can to show the value of these sessions. Unfortunately Bernadette falls victim to the language she uses to express her views – it's dripping with 'blame' and a generic "you" directed at her perceived adversaries. I doubt anyone in the room would disagree with the need to protect children from online predators, the key issue was with the "how" and the nature of "secret black lists". She needs to distinguish this difference more clearly if she isn't going to be publically pilloried as an extremist who's views will ultimately be discounted.

This certainly demonstrates the power of video (hope it doesn't end up on the blacklist!!)

Is it possible to get a download of the video (as opposed to a flash video), it's an hour long and I don't want to have to keep my browser in focus for an hour to watch it :p

Sorry, I only have access to this embedded version. Pretty sure you could use a Flash video grabber of some sort to save it out of the site and then play it stand alone?
